Recognize Your Strength

Judges 6:11 The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. 12 When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior. ”

13 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.”

14 The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”

15 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family. ”

16 The Lord answered, “I will be with you , and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.”

Today I wish to focus on our perception of ourselves. In the scripture above we see that an angel of God appeared before Gideon to inform him that he was going to lead his people in war against Midian. Consider the angels address to Gideon, “The Lord is with you MIGHTY WARRIOR

Look at the circumstances in which this proclamation was made. Here we have Gideon, a man from the weakest clan in Manasseh, the least in his family and he’s hiding in a wine press threshing wheat. Yet the angel of God is before him addressing him as a mighty warrior. Gideon was at his worst. He saw no hope for himself and his people, he believed that God had given up on them. His feelings of defeat were so strong that even in the presence of God he questioned his purpose and strength.

Do you feel like Gideon sometimes? Do you feel that God has given up on you, that he no longer has a purpose for your life, or that there’s no possible way he can use you to do anything for the kingdom? It’s at times like those  we need to try to envision our selves as God envisions us. Too often, just like Gideon, we remain focused on our situation and take our eyes and hearts off of God. We lose sight of the bigger picture and forget that God has a plan for us and our destiny is in his hands.

Imagine what we can accomplish if we spend less time focusing on our problems and more time focusing on our God. What would happen if we turn our worries into praise and start expecting to see the favor of God manifest itself in our lives. Too many of us are trapped in a wine press hiding from our enemies and our problems. We refuse to have faith and hope, we can’t see our selves as the mighty warrior God sees us as.

I wish to encourage you mighty warriors today. You can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens you. Start looking beyond your circumstances and start walking by faith. Visualize all that you wish to accomplish and all that you wish to overcome and begin to praise God for his breakthrough and I assure you that you will begin to see a drastic turn around in your situations. Don’t allow the tricks of the enemy to make you lose sight of the power and strength you have through Jesus.

I pray that God gives you a double portion of his strength and favor to overcome all of  your situations. Give God the praise and the honor and thank him for these trials for out of it we have a wonderful testimony to encourage each other. God Bless you!
