I’m writing this post ans there’s a broad smile on my face, my heart is feeling full of joy and I’m feeling like I can scream at the top of my lungs for the world to hear!
This weekend I met a remarkable, radical young man who is on a mission to win souls for the kingdom of heaven and had the pleasure of hearing his testimony of how God CHOSE him for a mission.
Ryan and I both entered a local competition geared at recognizing and building young ministers in Trinidad and Tobago. The competition was for persons between the ages of 7 and 25 to compete in four categories of ministry; Song, Dance, Monologues and Short Sermon. The winners of each category will be given the opportunity to minister at Liberation Day 2013; a rally that draws Christians from across the nation every year to come together and make a public statement for the Kingdom of Heaven.
In a recent post I shared how the competition caused me to have a remarkable experience with the Holy Spirit and increased my faith in God’s ability to speak through us. ( read that post here; Holy Spirit Access)
Ryan is a secondary school student; probably 15 or 16 years of age. At the preliminary round of the competition he went to the venue of the event to support his friend who was entering the short sermon category. While waiting for his friend to go before the judges he started considering entering the monologue competition (he never did a monologue before).
On the day of the event each of the contestants were required to pay a registration fee. Ryan didn’t have the money to register, of course God stepped in. One of the volunteer workers at the event indicated to him that she would pay the registration for him. Ryan wrote a piece then and there and used it to enter the competition.
Remember this is a young boy with no money who never did a monologue before.
Approximately two weeks after Ryan received a call from the facilitators, he had made it to the semi-final round of the competition. Unfortunately his friend didn’t make it to the next phase.
About mid-day one day God put Ryan to sleep and in a dream showed him a man in the wilderness crying out for people to repent. He said he remembered saying to God “but that’s John the Baptist”. Ryan woke out of his sleep and knew he had to portray John the Baptist as his character for the monologue.
As Ryan approached his mother to tell her the good news his mother turned to him and said “Ryan do you know what I think you should do for your monologue……..John the Baptist” Ryan immediately started to give God Praise. Shortly after he was speaking with of his friends and his friend said “Ryan I think you should do John the Baptist for your monologue”. Again all Ryan could do was praise God because his confirmation was coming from all directions.
One of the ways the facilitators of the competition helped the young ministers was by assigning a mentor to them to help them in their growth and development.
Ryan approached his mentor in church and his mentor began to tell him “Let me tell you what I think you should do for your piece…….” Ryan stopped him and said “Let me tell what God wants me to do…………..John the Baptist!” Ryan’s mentor could hardly believe his ears and started praising God also. Ryan was destined to be John the Baptist.
Ryan went all the way through to the finals of the competition where he won!
I wish there was a way for me to adequately allow you to experience the power and energy that emanates through this young believer of Christ. He has such a great passion for God and is driven in his purpose to get people to turn from their wicked ways and repent. I know that God has only begun his work in Ryan’s life and he is going to do a marvelous work for the kingdom. I urge you to remember him in Prayer because just as John the Baptist had many afflictions in spreading the message of repentance so to will Ryan, but we know greater is he who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4)
I believe that God is choosing radical people to represent his kingdom and I am excited to see the GREAT work he has planned!
